                     STORMWATER RULES

The Village of North Fond du Lac is being required by the State of Wisconsin to adopt Illicit Discharge Rules as they apply to the village’s stormwater system.  In an attempt to avoid pollutants from entering area streams and lakes the village will now have the responsibility to control materials entering our stormwater system.  These new rules will go into effect upon passage of Ordinance 2006-02 on January 16, 2006.

The objectives of the ordinance are:

  1. To regulate the contribution of pollutants to the municipal separate storm sewer system by stormwater discharges by any user.
  2. To prohibit Illicit Connections and Discharges to the municipal separate storm sewer system.
  3. To establish legal authority to carry out all inspection, surveillance and monitoring procedures necessary to ensure compliance with this ordinance.

These rules are not to be confused with the existing rules governing Clearwater Connections into the sanitary sewer system.  For example, the new rules would prohibit dumping wash water into the sump pump and then pumping the wash water into a backyard or into the street.  This rule would also prohibit someone from disposing of oil, thinners or detergents by dumping them into a catch basin.
