How do I register to vote?  To check to see if you are registered and where to vote, go to https://vpa.wi.gov/.

There are three easy ways to register in Wisconsin.

      You can:
1). Register in person at the Municipal Offices at 16 Garfield Street until 4:30 p.m. on the Friday before the election.

Bring some identification and proof of residence, and bring along your Drivers’ license number if you haven’t registered before in Wisconsin.

You may also be able to register at voter registration drives that may be held during community events.

2). Register by mail.  You can download and print an Application for Voter Registration Form (Form GAB-131) or you can contact (write or call) the Village Clerk’s office AT 929-3765, and ask us to send you an Application for Voter Registration Form (Form GAB-131) in the mail.  Follow each instruction carefully and mail it back before the deadline. (It must be postmarked or received in the clerk’s office 20 days before the election.  If you miss this deadline, you can still come into the office to register in person, or you can register at the polls.)

3). Register at the polls on election day.   You will need proof of residence or bring someone who knows you and where you live (and they will need proof of their residence.)

These documents constitute proof of residence if they:

Contain the your current and complete first and last name and residential address, and

are valid on the day used to register to vote.

·          A current and valid WI Driver License / ID Card

·          Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit

·          An employee ID card with a photograph, but not a business card

·          A real property tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election

·          A residential lease (Does not count as proof of residence if elector submits form by mail)

·          A picture ID from a university, college or technical college along with a fee receipt

-          A picture ID from a university, college or technical college along with an on-campus housing list provided by the campus, that denotes US citizenship

·          A utility bill for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before the day registration is made

·          A bank statement

·          A paycheck

-          A check or other document issued by a unit of government.

You can find the form in English at http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=15150&locid=47  .  It is also available in Hmong and Spanish at the Wisconsin Elections Board Website under Forms, All Forms.  It is called a GAB-131.

How do I change my address, in order to vote?  You must fill out the same registration form for an address change, even if it is within the Village from one place to another.   Provide proof of residence as above.  There is less information required in this case.

How do I change my name on my registration?  Make sure that before you change the name on your registration, you change the name on your Drivers' License or Wisconsin ID card, for voting.  Otherwise, if the two do not match on election day, we can't let you vote!  To change the name on your registration, use the same registration form above.  Check the box that says Name Change at the top of the form.

Where do we vote?  Everyone who votes in person votes at the Village of North Fond du Lac Community Center at 280 Garfield Street (Garfield dead ends west of Prospect in Village Park at the Center).  If you are disabled, we can arrange for a ballot to be brought to your car, and you can mark the ballot in private, and place in a privacy cover, and give it to an election official who will place your ballot in the machine for it to be counted.

What if I want to vote by absentee ballot? Can I have it mailed to me or mailed to my vacation home or military or overseas address?  How can I vote early by absentee ballot at the office?  You can fill out a request form and mail it in or drop it off, and we will send you an absentee ballot.  Or you can pick up the request form at the Village Offices.  You can also “early vote” at the office FOR TWO WEEKS BEFORE AN ELECTION STARTING ON MONDAY, AND ENDING ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE ELECTION DURING NORMAL OFFICE HOURS, if you are registered.  YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO VOTE FIRST IN ORDER TO VOTE ABSENTEE.  In the future, you will also need to provide a copy of a required ID along with your ballot or request.

You can find the absentee ballot request form at http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=13379&locid=47 It is also available in Hmong and Spanish at the Wisconsin Elections Board Website under Forms, All Forms.  It is called a GAB-121.

People who live overseas can only vote for Federal elections, but if you are on vacation, you can vote absentee like everyone else.  If you are in the military or if you are living overseas, you can alternatively get a Federal Postcard Application Form to register and request an absentee ballot.  This form is available at http://www.fvap.gov/resources/media/fpca.pdf
